Favorite Movies #10: Schizopolis

So yah I figgered this thang was suppsed ta be about indie film so I'd round out the top ten with a weirrrd one. You have to go into this movie prepared for a weird time and a six-pack of your favorite beer may help too. Also some good friends. The smart ones. Not the ones you watch sports with. But this movie is hiiiiiilarious and so there you go, top ten movies.

Favorite Movies #9: The Graduate

I'm gonna go ahead and go old school and give it up for some Dustin Hoffman from way back when. This movie is an all-time classic so it was an easy call and it is a favorite of mine so there you go.

Favorite Movies #8: Akira

I know it's been a while since I rapped ya (quoth my favorite columnist from the Onion) so I'm gonna go ahead and "poop" and get off the pot here and spit it out. Number 8 is Akira because it was the first real japaneese animation move I saw. I had seen plenty of other animation stuff at that point but Akira really opened up my eyes to japaneese animation and well I won't blather on about japaneese animation but I likes it if you haven't already noticed.

Favorite Movies #7: The Empire Strikes Back

I agree with the guys from Clerks. This movie is kickin. Also, the original trilogy kicks the arse of the new trilogy any day. I'm sorry but the clone wars were much cooler when they were legend talked about in the original three movies. Now that two crappy movies and one good one have been made about them they've lost some of their mystique.

Favorite Movies #6: The Godfather

How could I refuse? Dang, that was corny. The Godfather I and II make a great combo. Number three is ok but not so important. I love the epic story that you get. I love the mafia stuff. The horse head. The bullet proof vest filled with fish. The double crosses. And they're just so creative with their violence. It's not just people getting shot in the head, it's people getting shot in the eyes through their glasses. Nuff said.

Favorite Movies #5: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Yes, props to Terry Gillaim but also this is a damn funny movie. Anything by Hunter S. Thompson is a great place to start when making a movie (see also Where the Buffalo Roam starring Bill Murray). I think perhaps the best part about this movie was bringing Hunter Thompson to the masses. More people need to know about that guy and they do because of this flick.

Favorite Movies #4: Clerks

Here I go again throwing a flick in here to honor a favorite director. This time it’s Kevin Smith and I’ve picked his first movie for the sheer joy I got from seeing my first flick by this dude. Try to look past the scene where the actress screws up her lines...maybe that kind of a little too roughness makes it not the best Kevin Smith movie ever but it's still my favorite...I think...

Favorite Movies #3: Spaceballs

Maybe I should have just called this section “top five favorite directors of mine” because picked this one to give it up for Mel Brooks. Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein were clearly in the running but Spaceballs is really the Mel Brooks movie of my generation...it's the fact that I can talk about it and people know what I'm talking about that puts it up here instead of older Mel Brooks stuff.

Favorite Movies #2: The Big Lebowski

Here’s another tip of the hat to a favorite maker of movies- the Cohen brothers (you may remember them from Fargo, you may not remember them from Miller’s Crossing). Of course, it was also tough for me to pick this one as my favorite by them…but I've been a bad, bad blogger and I needed to make some decisions here. In order to make it up to all y'all, I'm gonna spit out the rest of the top five (if not ten) with the quickness.

Favorite Movies #1: Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

Ok, I admit it, I'm really paying tribute to my favorite director- Stanley Kubrick. It was a pretty tough call for me to figure out which of his films was my favorite. Peter Sellers tipped the scales, I guess.

Top Ten Movies

In an effort to make this more of an equal opportunity movies / music thang I'm gonna try and come up with my top ten favorite movies of all time. Like with the albums we're gonna get started with numero uno pronto!
